- 8:00am - 9:00am - watch: "Sunday Today" with Willie Geist on a local NBC affiliate. The show also airs at 9:00am on NBC (nation-wide), but that timing conflicts with CBS's "Sunday Morning".
- 9:00am - 10:30am - watch: CBS's "Sunday Morning" with Jane Pauley.
- 10:00am - start recording "AM Joy" (with Joy Reid) on MSNBC...while watching the last half hour of CBS's "Sunday Morning".
- 10:30am - Noon: after CBS's "Sunday Morning" is finished, start recording "Face the Nation" also on CBS with John Dickerson and start watching the earlier recorded "AM Joy"
- Noon - finish watching "AM Joy"...there are a half hour of commercials...so Joy's 2 hour show that I started to record at 10:00am can be watched (with fast forward) in 1.5 hours!
- NOON - 1:00pm - watch the previously tape "Face the Nation" that I recorded from 10:30 to 11:30.
- 1:00pm - 2:00pm - watch: Fareed Zakaria's GPS (Global Public Square) program on CNN.
- 2:00pm - 3:00pm - watch: "Meet the Press" with Chuck Todd on MSNBC (aired earier on NBC)

An e-mail from my room-mate!
Rooms,
I loved re-reading your "Journey to Dubuque" just now. I think as roommates we talked about our stories enough that I knew much of it, but I liked reading from the perspective of looking back after 50 years of growth and life.
As dissimilar as our lives may have seemed as we came to Dubuque, we had similar stories. I was surrounded by wealth and privilege but perhaps because my father began his career as a retail salesman and gradually became more successful, and had eight kids, we always, from my perspective, were many steps behind the Joneses. Not that we were lacking in material things, just that our expectation (and entitlement) was so much less than those around us… just like you.
But more to the point, I think the love that each of us found in our homes and the openness that somehow was taught to us or bred in us, made us brothers in spirit even before we got to know each other. I think it was 1965 when we became friends.
At the time, I was so dumb or sheltered I had no idea how big a deal it was for us to decide to be roommates. I had of course witnessed prejudice all my life but my family always gave me to believe that it was ignorant and shameful. New Canaan was an enlightened community where race was never even mentioned, except to disparage Southerners in the news for being racist. It was just, I supposed, coincidence that I never had more than 1 or 2 black classmates throughout K-12. Later, I had gone through the agony of trying to integrate our fraternity but I guess I chose to believe that it was the 1 nay vote system that was my undoing. I mean even many a 100 proof WASP, Biff or Chip had trouble not getting at least 1 secret nay out of 26.
Maybe it was that experience that spurred me to try and talk you into taking a chance on me. But I honestly think it was just that I felt that you were a kindred spirit. And wasn’t that ditsy, flighty, 19 year old me, right about that one thing?
You made my last 3 years at Dubuque better and broader and more fulfilling. I learned more from you in subtle ways, than Soc, Psyc and 20 other courses rolled into one. You were a kind and patient friend who forgave me my naiveté about the larger world and took me into your circle. And we always had fun.
As I’ve grown and matured, I realize that you are and have always been the type of guy that many people feel is a kindred spirit. Your easy-going, fun-loving, goodness is magnetic. I believe it makes those around you a little better. Even me.
Much love old dear friend, Rooms

The crazies in the GOP are really crazy!!!

- President Barack Obama is a Muslim. Numerous polls show that more than 50 percent of all Republicans believe this untrue claim to be true.
- President Barack Obama is not a legal citizen of the Unites States. A September poll shows 29 percent of Republican voters believe Obama was born outside of the United State, not in Hawaii, where he was born.
- Forty-nine percent of Republicans do not believe in evolution.
- Allied forces did not find weapons of mass destruction in Iraq after we invaded, but more than 41 percent of Republicans believe they did in a 2015 poll.
- Numerous Republican politicians claim Planned Parenthood officials sell fetal tissue so they can buy Lamborghinis.
- Roughly 40 percent of Republican voters do not believe the earth is warming because of human activity.
- Iran does not have the capacity to attack the U.S. with nuclear weapons, but 45 percent of Republicans think it does and that military action is needed right now.
- Some GOP presidential candidates and members of Congress believe ISIS intends to attack the U.S. on our soil; they don’t buy the idea that what ISIS really wants is a Islamic caliphate in and around Syria.
- Republicans in the House claim simply “repealing” Obamacare is a practical and politically possible option.
- Over a third of Republican voters believe Donald Trump represents their best shot at winning the presidency.

Awesomeness in the Turks & Caicos!
The Romanians:
There was the young couple from Romania (didn’t get their names) who escaped communist Romania and fled to Germany (well after the wall came down). They told us of the hardships that they endured and how they were treated and housed in many different German locations…but they were free! Eventually they were sponsored by their Uncle and were allowed to immigrate to the United States! Their story was amazing! They were traveling (on vacation) with their 6 month old son! In Turks & Caicos with a 6 month old! The kid was awesome. Not a peep out of him in all the fancy restaurants!
The Honeymooners!
Then there were the Houston newlyweds, Billy & Holly…married for 5 days! Their original plans were to honeymoon in Cabo San Lucas (Mexico) but hurricane Odile screwed that up! So at the last minute…they signed up for Turks & Caicos. They were awesome too! Just good, wonderful young people. We first met them on the resort’s beach and it was instant good vibes. And…he’s a fan of Crown Royal…which just so happens to be our kid’s new favorite beverage of choice! The honeymooners don’t know it…but they haven’t seen the last of us. Just good kids and we wish all the best for them!
The Ladies from Vancouver!
And finally...our new found buddies from Vancouver! We booked a half day “snorkeling/conch” cruise with “Caicos Dream Tours”. That’s where we met these two outgoing and fun-loving ladies (Rosemary & Christa)! “Ms. Rosey” invited us to her home and insisted that we take an Alaskan cruise…originating from Vancouver (her home town). She even said she would pick us up from the airport in Vancover! And…she invited us to stay with her in her two bedroom condo! (She may not know this…but we’re going to take her up on this invite)!!!
To us, this is just one of the greatest things about travel. It’s so much about the people you get to meet from all walks of life and from all over the world and then you quickly realize that we all have so much in common! Just good people! Oh…and the beach was awesome too!
Traveling is an awesome experience! It has ALWAYS been an awesome experience for us! It’s time to figure out where we’re going next and the wonderful people we may get a chance to meet! My best friend is trying to talk us into joining him and the Mrs. on a QM2 trans-Atlantic crossing from South Hampton, England to New York! We may just take him up on it!!!

This is Sad!
He looked at us and said..."I don't like this". We asked why? He said...because this is sad! He is 5 years old!!!

Hold Your Tongue!
I’ve always held on to the thought that “ if you don’t have anything good to say…don’t say anything at all!” It’s probably why I have high blood pressure and consume at least 6 pills a day to combat this...not to mention the Rum (Bacardi Light) & Tonic (Schwepps please)!
My thoughts apply to so many people including my immediate loved ones, extended family and friends. If I expressed what I really felt at any given moment (during one of our conversations), I’m sure I would have either offended them or I would be misunderstood…so I just shut (the f*ck) up!
I’m not looking for any empathy…but it’s a hell of a burden to carry. I’m no saint…but I just wish more people would see it my way.
I’m not a big astrology buff…but did I mention I was born under the sign of Cancer? Perhaps that explains it all? Maybe? Who knows! I'm just sayin'!

"Can we talk?" R.I.P. Joan Rivers
I first saw a live Joan Rivers performance back in the mid-1960s in Dubuque, Iowa! That's right, I said Dubuque, IOWA! That's a whole 'nother story! As usual, even in those early days she pushed the envelope and I'm not so sure how many of those mid-westerners appreciated her razor sharp tongue...but that was 50+ years ago. I however was rolling on the floor!

Cruisin' with my Peeps!
All in all, it was a relaxing and enjoyable journey. One day (+) in Nassau and a day at sea on the return voyage. Aside from that, what captured my attention more than anything else, were the "looks" of many of my fellow passengers (2,600+)!
My wife thinks I’m going to hell for these comments, but what I saw amazed me for two-and-a-half days. It started from the moment we arrived at the pier in Miami. My wife rolled her eyes at me every time I pointed out these things. Pointed out what? That’s what you’re probably thinking. Well here goes. These are my personal observations…and yes…I’m probably going to hell!
- It was everywhere...EVERYWHERE!!!
- Braids, wigs, extensions and more braids in every shape, size, color and length imaginable! Mid-back or waist length were the lengths of choice.
- There were enough braids, if tied end-to-end, could circle the world!
- Everywhere I looked there were braids! It was a braids onslaught!
Gold!
For the women, it was the big (and I mean BIG) gold hoop earrings. If not hoops, saucer size were just as fine. For the men…I noticed a few gold teeth…maybe more than a few!
Fat (obese) folks!
I should talk! Overweight…yes, obese no! We’re talkin’ both men and women. These were big people…people! Somehow, many of the overweight women prefer to wear these ankle length jersey dresses, preferably in two or three sizes too small! You get to see sh*t you don’t want to see. Do they have magic mirrors at home? Do they have any mirrors at home?
Tattoos…EVERYWHERE!
Neck (ugh), semi-exposed titties, arms, calves, backs, ankles, EVERYWHERE! Did I mention the titties!
Yes! I'm going to hell!

Happy Father's Day!
Back then divorce was a "hush hush" subject. You just didn't speak about it or ask any questions. Eventually my Mom said that Dad moved out of our Bronx apartment because it was too small and they wanted us to have our own room. As a nine year old...I bought that line/logic/excuse...hook, line and sinker!
As I grew older, and even to this day, I would love to know what actually drove them apart...but, at this stage in my life, I know I never will.
So on this Father's day, I do think about the past, but I'm focused on the present and the future! I'm blessed with two wonderful/awesome daughters (and their spouses) and an "over the top" grandson who calls me "Dude"!
And...I'm happy! With that said...Happy Father's Day!

CT DMV - In & Out in 20 Minutes!!!
Why would anyone want to actually go to the DMV in any state? Well...given my latest medical escapade (and perhaps the thought of getting a handicapped parking permit) and the need for local beach stickers, I had no other choice. To get the beach stickers, my town required current copies of our "vehicle registration certificates" which were no where to be found. You're supposed to keep the certificates in the vehicle along with the insurance card and other stuff...but none of it was there! But I digress.
So, expecting the worst, I headed off to one of Connecticut's local DMV offices. As I approached, it appeared as though every car in the state of Connecticut was in the parking lot. I was about to turn around and go home...but decided to stick it out!
11:20AM
I get on the "information line". There are at least 15 folks ahead of me.
I'm with a cane and me knees are killing me!
11:32AM
I approach a clerk and tell her I would like to get a temporary handicapped permit and registration replacements (to get my beach stickers). I'm given a ticket numbered E921. Wow...that was quick...only 12 minutes on the "information line"! The clerk asks that I not go too far away, because my number (E921) would be called soon! Sure...I say to myself...but I'm still in a state of shock over the 12 minutes! I look around and there are 100+ people here! I find a seat and within a minute or two...my number E921 is called! I almost fell off the chair. It must have been the cane and the request for a handicapped sticker!
As instructed, I go to window #14 (there are over 20+ windows). I'm greeted by a very friendly and cordial DMV employee who appears to be happy to assist me. Is this the DMV?
11:40
I exited the DMV with handicapped permit and certified registrations in hand. As I'm leaving, I see all of the folks who were on the information line (ahead of me) still waiting for their number to be called! I'm still in a state of shock.
Postcript:
If you ever need to go to a Connecticut DMV office...it's always a plus if you're somehow incapacited. If so...they may give you a number that begins with the letter "E"! I think it means "express" or "expedite" or something! But it is good! If, on the other hand, you're going for beach stickers....fuhgeddaboudit!

Happy Mother's Day & 40th too!
