Eight new ‘Obamacare’ health programs for women begin today.
Under the Affordable Care Act, which President Obama signed into law on March 23, 2010, and was recently upheld by the Supreme Court this past June, eight new preventive services for women will begin today, August 1, 2012.
- Well-woman visits
- Gestational diabetes screening
- High-risk human papillomavirus (HPV) DNA testing
- Sexually Transmitted Infections
- HIV screening and counseling
- Contraception and contraceptive counseling (except religious institutions…for the time being)
- Breastfeeding support, supplies, and counseling
- Interpersonal and domestic violence screening and counseling
