Where I've been!

Perhaps I should have posted this info into my profile ...but here are just some random thoughts about me...that I expect to post here....one of these days! I'm grateful for what I've experienced thus far in my life...and remain excited about what may be "around the corner"!

Here it is in a nutshell...major milestones/impacts on a boomer's journey through life!
  • 1339 Prospect Avenue (DAyton 8-6615) - my childhood & teenage years...in the South Bronx...in apartment # 4B!
  • My Mom..."Tip Toe through the Tulips!" Look up the word Mom in the dictionary...
  • My Grandfather...a man before his time!
  • St. Augustine's Church - it's influence on me.
  • Camp Bohatom - an innocence of youth?...and total escapism!
  • Junior High School #127 - Castle Hill Avenue - Totally Alone!
  • James Monroe High School - The United Nations of the Bronx!
  • Dubuque, Iowa - How did a kid from the South Bronx...wind up in Dubuque, Iowa.
  • The University of Dubuque...an experience I'll never forget!
  • Terry...you were taken away...too young...too soon!
  • Corporate America - An Introduction!
  • Uncle Sam Wants You! - Why Me?
  • Bachelorhood! - Whatever that means!
  • Marriage - Wow!
  • Fatherhood - Wow Again!
  • More Corporate America.
  • Tokyo Japan! - How did a kid from the South Bronx wind up in Tokyo, Japan?
  • Pete...I miss you more than you'll ever know!
  • Back to American Reality & Corporate America
  • You can't keep them on the Farm...where do we relocate?
  • Where are we now...and who gives a crap!
  • A daughter is a daughter...
  • A grandson! Wow!
  • Places to see before you die! Aka...the bucket list!
  • Whatever else comes to mind...we'll see!

  2. Camp Bohatom is one of my fondest memories. Let's put together an alumni connection on a social media platform--Facebook, perhaps, with one dynamic timeline!

At such a time as this,

  3. Patrice! Thanks for your comment. I spent over 15 summers at Camp Bohatom. We're trying to do a reunion somewhere, some time, some how in the future. Appreciate your ideas! Keep in touch!

  4. Wow, what a treat to stumble on Bohatom campers. I found you today because in a nostalgic moment I googled Coeyman's Hollow to get a satellite view of what our camp looks like today. I'm up for a reunion. Need advance notice though, I'm in Atlanta.
    Hey Mario, Patrice.

    1. Hey Stephanie...awesome. I went to Camp Bohatom from 1954 to 1966. The greatest memories and long-lasting friendships. A few of us "old timers" (aka...baby boomers) may try to get together this summer!

    2. Hi! My family purchased the property that was once Camp Bohatom about 12 years ago. I have been trying ever since to find out any history about the camp possible. Yesterday while doing yard work my husband found a part from the old basketball hoop with the name stenciled on it, so finally after 12 years I found out the name. I would love to see old photos of the camp, sadly the place was mostly in ruins when my family bought it but we were able to restore one of the old cabins.

    Thanks,

    2. Paul,

Don't know how close to a reunion anyone got. Are you aware of any continued interest out there. I have the fondest memories of Camp Bohatom, and I believe others feel the same. I would love to be involved in planning an event to celebrate that experience. I can be reached via Facebook as well.

    4. Hi. I, too, attended P.S. 54 and JHS 136. I lived on 936 Home Street. Did you live close the Southern Blvd or closer to Intervale Ave.? I graduated from P.S. 54 on June 1968. My teacher's name was Mr. Wiles. I've been looking for a couple of friends who graduate on the same year. Their names were Elba and Eva. I'm looking for their last names. Take care.

  9. Got onto this web site by error, and it brought back many memories, I am 92 years old and went to PS54 & then to JHS40 with the swimming pool. Do you all remember? Then to Central Commercial HS in New York City on 42nd Street. I lived at 1155 Intervale Ave. and my parents owned the tailor store at that address. I go back a long time in the Bronx, but enjoyed every minute growing up. I now live in Rockland County and miss DA BRONX.

    1. Just came across this site and was enthralled that your entry was written on my 90th birthday. I also attended PS54 and then JHS40 for a year. I would love to continue the conversation. Remember Ms Aiken the principal of 54?

  10. It's been a few years since I've written a comment. My brother Jose still lives on Ritter Place across from what used to be JHS 136. I attended Camp Bohatom from 1956 - 1968. I'd love to have a reunion. Let me know how I can help put that together!

  11. While a student at Princeton Theological Seminary from 1970 to 1973, I had the good fortune of being mentored by Rev. Edler G. Hawkins during his first years of teaching there after leaving St. Augustine's. He influenced my life in so many important ways, none being more significant than his guidance in advising me to work for two summers in 1972 and 1973 at Camp Bohatom. I would love to hear from anyone who was at the camp during those years. It was an extraordinary experience!

  12. My name is Lisa. I am a member of St. Augustine Presbyterian Church and went to Camp Bohatom in the mid to late 1960s. Had a great time there! I know a couple of people who have commented here. Glad to know that the property was purchased and cared for. It would be wonderful to see it again.

  13. I attended PS 54 in the 60's, family lived at 1184 Fox St.. The end of Fox St intersected with Intervale Ave. We had a view of PS54 from our window directly across the street. We moved to 1330 Webster Ave when Claremont Village went up then I attended PS55, from there JHS 148 on 3rd Ave between 169 and 170, the 3rd Ave El was being torn down, on to Taft HS from there. It seems like everyone from the Bx came through the South Bronx... Now they call it Foxhurst...

  15. Someone please post a picture of the camp now. Which cabin was saved? On the boy's side or the girl's side? Me and my sisters went for 4 years straight. We stayed in cabins Minnehaha, Doe , Sequoia and Talahi.
