Vladimir Putin offered Donald Trump "his congratulations on winning a historic election" in a phone call Monday, in the latest sign of a cozy relationship between the Russian president and the U.S President-elect.
"President-elect Trump noted to President Putin that he is very much looking forward to having a strong and enduring relationship with Russia and the people of Russia," Trump's office said in a statement.
But in a far-more detailed statement posted to the Kremlin's website, Russian officials said Putin, in the call, not only congratulated Trump on his win but also said he was prepared to "establish a partner-like dialogue with the new administration on the basis of equality, mutual respect and noninterference in domestic relations."
