The crazies in the GOP are really crazy!!!

  • President Barack Obama is a Muslim.   Numerous polls show that more than 50 percent of all Republicans believe this untrue claim to be true.
  • President Barack Obama is not a legal citizen of the Unites States.   A September poll shows 29 percent of Republican voters believe Obama was born outside of the United State, not in Hawaii, where he was born.
  • Forty-nine percent of Republicans do not believe in evolution.
  • Allied forces did not find weapons of mass destruction in Iraq after we invaded, but more than 41 percent of Republicans believe they did in a 2015 poll.
  • Numerous Republican politicians claim Planned Parenthood officials sell fetal tissue so they can buy Lamborghinis.
  • Roughly 40 percent of Republican voters do not believe the earth is warming because of human activity.
  • Iran does not have the capacity to attack the U.S. with nuclear weapons, but 45 percent of Republicans think it does and that military action is needed right now.
  • Some GOP presidential candidates and members of Congress believe ISIS intends to attack the U.S. on our soil; they don’t buy the idea that what ISIS really wants is a Islamic caliphate in and around Syria.
  • Republicans in the House claim simply “repealing” Obamacare is a practical and politically possible option.
  • Over a third of Republican voters believe Donald Trump represents their best shot at winning the presidency.

Texas Politics & Their Politicians!

Does the oil from their wells leak into their drinking water?

Words of Wisdom from Govenor Rick Perry!

Texas Gov. Rick Perry, speaking in San Francisco on Wednesday night, said the U.S. would better serve its diverse population by letting the states handle many economic and social policies, a point he perhaps inadvertently drove home when he compared homosexuality to alcoholism.

"Whether or not you feel compelled to follow a particular lifestyle or not, you have the ability to decide not to do that," Perry said. "I may have the genetic coding that I'm inclined to be an alcoholic, but I have the desire not to do that, and I look at the homosexual issue the same way."     More at SFGATE.

Then there is the Newly Adopted Texas RNC Platform!

Under the new plank, the Texas Republican Party recognizes "the legitimacy and efficacy of counseling, which offers reparative therapy and treatment for those patients seeking healing and wholeness from their homosexual lifestyle."

"The platform reflects what the people in the Republican party have asked for, and that should be no surprise: family values, protection of marriage between one man and one woman and everything that goes along with that," said Jonathan Saenz, president of the conservative group Texas Values and a convention delegate.

The party did, however, remove language from the platform stating: “we affirm that the practice of homosexuality tears at the fabric of society and contributes to the breakdown of the family unit. Homosexual behavior is contrary to the fundamental, unchanging truths that have been ordained by God.”

And how Can We forget Louie Gohmert!
(U.S. Representative from Texas's First Congressional District.)

People...you just can't make this sh*t up!!!

Independence Day in America!

OK America, on this Independence Day, perhaps it’s time for a re-assessment of our claim as the greatest country on earth.   Don’t get me wrong, I love this place, but we are not without flaws!

Given the Republican primaries, among other things, I’ve revisited the concept of America’s greatness.   C’mon!   If for nothing else, the fact that so many Americans actually voted for Bachmann, Santorum, & Cain & Perry or believed that “birther” Trump was worthy of the office of the Presidency continues to scare the sh*t out of me!   Did I mention Newt?   Add to that, 47% of the American electorate thought that Sarah Palin qualified to be a heartbeat away from the Presidency still has me shaking in my boots.

America is a leader among the world in religious beliefs, incarceration and defense spending!   Is that greatness?   Sadly enough there are some Americans that still believe that President Obama is a Muslim born in Kenya.   But American intelligence is a whole ‘nother matter.   I’m certain that many Americans probably couldn’t pass the test to become a naturalized citizen.   These are the very same people that are probably fighting immigration reform tooth and nail.

America is a divided nation.   Some have said it’s the college educated, the minorities and the young…versus everyone else.   Red state versus blue state!   Our issues are many and they add to this divisiveness:

In spite of all of this, I do believe that America can lay claim to the title of “Land of Opportunity”.   I love this country and most…but not all...of its people.   But given the current climate and state of affairs…I question its greatness.
