Bayrischzell, Germany

This is a prime contender for our 2013 Xmas/Holiday greeting card.   Picture was taken by my daughter on an iphone5!!!   Gotta get me one of those!   Bayrischzell, Germany is about about an hour and a half from Munich.

Tithing - 10% of a Dollar is a Penny? Do the math!

A tithe is 10% which equals one penny out of every dollar!   Huh?   See the above image for the mathematics.   Question...does your "preacher/minister" drive a Benz or a much more expensive car than you?   Your tithing dollars at work!

"Religion has actually convinced people that there's an invisible man living in the sky who watches everything you do, every minute of every day.   And the invisible man has a special list of ten things he does not want you to do.   And if you do any of these ten things, he has a special place, full of fire and smoke and burning and torture and anguish, where he will send you to live and suffer and burn and choke and scream and cry forever and ever 'til the end of time!   But He loves you.

He loves you, and He needs money!   He always needs money! He's all-powerful, all-perfect, all-knowing, and all-wise, somehow just can't handle money! Religion takes in billions of dollars, they pay no taxes, and they always need a little more.   Now, you talk about a good bullshit story. Holy Shit!"

Quote from George Carlin, one of my all time favorite comedians!   He was awesome and sorely missed!   Image from the Friendly Atheist.

Just bought me a print of my President!   My daughter "tweeted" and provided a link to Marion Bolognesi.   Ms. Bolognesi's work is over the top!   Check it out!

Artist Marion Bolognesi lives and works in New York City where she splits her time between accessories design and her personal passion for expressive, illustrative waterclor painting.   She received a BFA with a focus in Illustration from Massachusetts College of Art and Design in Boston in 2003 and has exhibited her paintings and work around the globe.

Most & Least "Bible-Minded" Cities!

From a national survey conducted by the Barna Group. "Individuals who report reading the Bible in a typical week and who strongly assert the Bible is accurate in the principles it teaches are considered to be Bible-minded."

Regionally, the South still qualifies as the most Bible-minded.   The top ranking cities, where at least half of the population qualifies as Bible-minded, are all Southern cities.   This includes the media markets for Knoxville, TN (52% of the population are Bible-minded), Shreveport, LA (52%), Chattanooga, TN (52%), Birmingham, AL (50%), and Jackson, MS (50%). Other markets in the top 10 include Springfield, MO (49%), Charlotte, NC (48%), Lynchburg, VA (48%), Huntsville-Decatur, AL (48%), and Charleston, WV (47%).   The least Bible-oriented markets include a mix of regions, but tend to be from the New England area.

Easily the lowest Bible-minded scores came from Providence, RI (9%) and Albany, NY (10%).   To put this in perspective, the most Bible-minded markets are five times more likely to have residents who qualify as Bible-minded than is true in these two Northeastern cities.   Though these two cities are the most extreme, none of the cities in the bottom 10 break 20%, where even one in five people could be considered Bible-minded.   The New England area is home to most of the markets in the bottom 10 Bible-minded cities, including Burlington, VT (16%), Portland, ME (16%), Hartford, CT (16%), Boston, MA (16%), Buffalo, NY (18%) and New York, NY (18%).

NOTES:
No new news here.   It's the usual suspects!   The full list from the Barna Group is here.

Good news...bad news!

Good news...my 401K account is back to where it was back in 2007...just before the sh*t hit the fan!   I'm elated!   In the worst of times...I lost 60% of my investments/savings!   So...for 5 years...I could have just stuffed this money under the mattress...but I ain't complaining.   Hell we went through hurricane Sandy with no damage. Lost electricity for two days...big deal!   Like I said...I ain't complaining!

Bad news...I visited my oncologist (cancer dude) and he tells me my PSA count is a little high...and recommends I see my urologist (dude that took out my kidney)!   I asked what is a PSA count?   He explained in doctor-ese terms....so I googled it when I got back home.   Ugh!   This is the same dude that recommended I see a nutritionist (a food/health person that I haven't yet scheduled) and a endocrinologist (diabetes dude scheduled for February 11th).   More doctors to visit!   Seeing the urologist (PSA dude) tomorrow!

But more good news...I'm alive!

The People versus the Winter!

Given the current weather conditions here in the northeast...the winter wins again!

Unchaining..."Django Unchained"

Those of you that read my "A Nigger on a Horse" post, know that I loved this movie.   So did my daughter and she sent me this really interesting tidbit regarding the "Blue Suit" that Jamie Fox wore in the scene above...and even earlier in the movie!

The outfit is similar to the Thomas Gainsborough painting of the "Blue Boy"

The very first film (Der Knabe in Blau) done by German filmmaker, F. W. Murnau (most well-known for Nosferatu) was inspired by the Blue Boy.   In 1924 Murnau invented a camera technique that allowed filmmakers to move that camera while they were filming.

According to Wikipedia "this is arguably the most important stylistic innovation of the 20th century!" What is the name of that technique? The answer is "Unchained Camera Technique".

I thought...how ironic?   But then again...Tarantino is just short of genius...and perhaps there is no irony in this at all!   Apparently the Academy of Motion Pictures doesn't believe Mr. Tarantino is a genius as they snubbed him for nomination as "Best Director".

They also did the same for Ben's Affleck's brilliant direction for "Argo"...another awesome film!   Hours after a surprise snub in Academy Award nominations, Ben Affleck won best director and "Argo" was named best picture at the Critic's Choice Movie Awards.

I'm gonna start killing people!

UPDATE:
The Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security has taken action against James Yeager, CEO of Tactical Response, following his recent comments about his Second Amendment right. The state has suspended the handgun carry permit for Yeager after he threatened to “start killing people” to protect his Second Amendment right.

In a statement released Friday officials said they had suspended the handgun carry permit of James Yeager, CEO of Tactical Response based on “material likelihood of risk of harm to the public”.

Guns, guns and more guns!

According to the Washington Post, below are the twelve (12) facts about guns and mass shootings in the United States:
  1. Shooting sprees are not rare in the United States.
  2. 15 of the 25 worst mass shootings in the last 50 years took place in the United States.
  3. Lots of guns don’t necessarily mean lots of shootings, as you can see in Israel and Switzerland
  4. Of the 11 deadliest shootings in the US, five have happened from 2007 onward.
  5. America is an unusually violent country. But we’re not as violent as we used to be.
  6. The South is the most violent region in the United States.
  7. Gun ownership in the United States is declining overall.
  8. More guns tend to mean more homicide
  9. States with stricter gun control laws have fewer deaths from gun-related violence
  10. Gun control, in general, has not been politically popular.
  11. However, particular policies to control guns often are popular.
  12. Shootings don’t tend to substantially affect views on gun control.

Bachmann re-introduces Obamacare repeal!

The 112th Congress gaveled to a close on Thursday afternoon without passing a relief package for victims of Hurricane Sandy or reauthorizing the Violence Against Women Act, but Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) isn’t too concerned about finishing what Republicans had left undone.   Instead, at 12:00 PM she introduced the very first piece of legislation to repeal the Affordable Care Act, which states are now busily implementing.

What scares the sh*t out of me is that some Americans in Minnesota actually voted for this dumb *ss b*tch...AGAIN!   Unbelievable!   And...World Net Daily has named her their "Woman of the Year!"   Definitely believable!

Happy 150th - Emancipation Proclamation!

Yeah, it was written one hundred and fifty years ago...but wait a minute...was this whole thing to end slavery or an effort restore the Union?   I'm confused!   And this doesn't seem to jibe with the bullsh*t notion of the 1776 Declaration of Independence that ALL men are created equal?   And isn't this the greatest nation on earth?   I'm just askin' 'cause I'm confused!

But Happy New Year anyway!

New Years Eve Fireworks from around the World!
