The Sketchbook Project & My Daughter!

Thousands of sketchbooks will be exhibited at galleries and museums as they make their way on tour across the country.   One of those books belongs to my oldest daughter, the Puma sneaker designer!

The tour starts this weekend at the Brooklyn museum and runs through February 27.   Additional exhibits are scheduled for Washington, DC; Atlanta, Georgia; and a half dozen other cities.

After the tour, all sketchbooks will enter into the permanent collection of The Brooklyn Art Library, where they will be barcoded and available for the public to view.

28,838 artists from 94 countries around the world are participating!

Bachmann Refuses to Say Obama is a Christian and Citizen

She received her law degree from Oral Roberts University. At the time of her graduation, it was the largest Charismatic Christian university in the world! Therefore, in her mind, President Obama is a Muslim born in Kenya.

To help reduce the federal deficit, maybe she’ll give back the more than a quarter of a million dollars her family received in farm subsidies from 1995 through 2006! It will always baffle me...how does a person like her win elections?   Must be a lot of Teabaggers in the 6th Congressional district. Dontcha think?

A Historic Fraud Against the American People!

Chris Matthews - War Crime Hearings!

I'm proud to say that I never believed the Bush propaganda (bullsh*t) about WMD!   At the time, I believe that over 60% of Americans ate this dog food.   Truly...a tragedy and a scar on America that will never be forgotten... at least by folks like me!

Hope Phones

I saw this on the news this morning.   Very cool idea.   I've got a few old cell phones lying around here.   They even pay for the postage!!!

American's discard over a half a million cell phones every day, and only 10% of those phones are recycled.

But Hope Phones helps bring a new life to your waste.

If we throw away 500,000 phones each day, and each is worth $15-$50, then with just 1% of that money, Hope Phones can raise enough to buy new phones for a million health workers.   Yes, a million.

Because health workers in the developing world use simple phones, a donated phone has a huge impact- if you send in your used iPhone, for example, Hope Phones can purchase 5-7 phones for healthcare workers.

How?

Go to:

Print the postage-paid shipping label,
and stick it in the mail to:

That Missing Case for War!

“Although we assess that Saddam does not yet have nuclear weapons or sufficient material to make any, he remains intent on acquiring them”

Donald Rumsfield
“Known and Unkown”
(An excerpt from his book as he stated in the October 2002 National Intelligence Report)

4,500+ American soldiers and over 100,000 Iraqi civilians have died based on Saddam’s so-called “intent”!   Another 30,000 Americans soldiers have been wounded!  Known or Unknown!!!

“It wasn’t meant to be”

“It wasn’t meant to be” is really a hard term to accept.   It was extremely hard for my youngest daughter, but hard for the rest of us as well.   She even had T-shirts made up for my grandson, Romell, with the phrase “I’m a big brother”!   But…it wasn’t meant to be!   That’s the condolences that everyone said.   Believe it or not…I try to find solace in that.

Turns out, it was a miscarriage...or something like that?   Doctor said the "baby" wouldn't make it to "term"?   She was only a month or so pregnant…but still.   Damn!   We were hurt, if for nothing else, because she was hurt.   It was emotional.   It sucks.

I am a staunch supporter of “Pro Choice”.   I firmly believe it’s up to a woman to choose…not the government.   However, I look at my grandson, Romell, and say wow!   What if, for whatever reason, my daughter decided that, at that time, it wasn’t meant to be?   And then she chose…that it wasn’t meant to be”?   This world would have lost out on an incredible, beautiful child named Romell.   Makes you think.   I’m just sayin’.   Don’t cha think?

Colonoscopies

Dave Barry, a Pulitzer Prize-winning humor columnist for the Miami Herald, wrote an article on this.   In true Dave Barry fashion it cracked me up and is a must read for those of us over 50! I can appreciate the humor...because I've had a few of these in the last couple of years.

Someone appended the comments below to the original Dave Barry article when it was forwarded to me...and these REALLY had me laughing out loud!

A physician claimed that the following are actual comments made by his patients (predominately male) while he was performing their colonoscopies:
  • "Take it easy, Doc. You're boldly going where no man has gone before!"
  • "Find Amelia Earhart yet?"
  • "Can you hear me NOW?"
  • "Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet?"
  • "You know, in Arkansas , we're now legally married.'"
  • "Any sign of the trapped miners, Chief?"
  • "You put your left hand in, you take your left hand out..."
  • "Hey! Now I know how a Muppet feels!"
  • "If your hand doesn't fit, you must quit!"
  • "Hey Doc, let me know if you find my dignity."
  • 'You used to be an executive at Enron, didn't you?"
  • "God, now I know why I am not gay."
And the best one of all:
"Could you write a note for my wife saying that my head is not up there?"

Young & Mixed in America.

As printed on the front page of today's New York Times.

"One in 19 people are born mixed race and if you keep mixing there's going to be an average color that pops out...probably not in the next decade, but probably in the next century or so things will have changed a lot because things are changing exponentially and because of that race will no longer be the big hot topic...at least not the way it is now.   Most people will be in some way mixed".

As the father of two daughters who fell in love with, and married, someone of a different race, I would give anything to be alive and able to witness this first hand.

But, I've got a good start...and his name is Romell.

Lieberman - A Connecticut Disgrace!

I have mixed emotions about him dropping out of the 2012 race.   On the one hand ...I'm glad he did!   On the other...I'm sorry that I won't be able to see him being trounced in a bid for re-election!

He still holds true to the whole WMD bulls**t and refers to Arianna Huffington as "Sweetie"!

You could NOT be re-elected in 2012!!!   Good bye and good riddance Joe!   You are a disgrace to the people of Connecticut...especially, to those of us who thought you were a better choice than Ned Lamont!

"You Lie"! Thanks Joe Wilson!

via wonkette

A South Carolina gun and accessories company has been selling a very special, one-of-a-kind semi-automatic rifle component inscribed with “YOU LIE,” to honor the state’s favorite son Joe Wilson and his good Southern gentlemanly manners.

Yes, for just $99.95, you too can carry those immortal words of pure American bald-eagle-blood spirit on your assault rifle (a kind of gun designed to be very good at killing people, for you "librul weenies" out there).   Which raises the question: Isn’t it a bit late to come out with a Joe Wilson gun thing?   His outburst was a whole two years ago.   Though perhaps, considering very recent events, this is actually the perfect time for member-of-Congress-themed gun parts.

The product “is neither endorsed nor affiliated with Joe Wilson or his campaign,” according to a line of text at the bottom of the page.   A picture of Wilson holding a rifle and standing in the company’s gun shop appears on the same page.

The perfect accessory for all your black-president-hunting-needs!

Unfortunately, the product page for this component is no longer available.   Did the gun company see what happened in Arizona and take it down?   We don’t know. But this “YOU LIE” thing was a limited-edition component, with a production run of 999; considering how murder guns are suddenly more popular than ever the past few days, they probably just plain sold out.

Blood Libel

Blood Libel - The blood libel is a false accusation that Jews sacrifice Christian children either to use the blood for various "medicinal" purposes or to prepare Passover Matzoth (unleavened bread) or for vengeance and mock crucifixions.   It is one of the central fables of Anti-Semitism of the older (middle ages) type.   The blood libel is a phenomenon of medieval and modern Christian anti-Semitism, but spread to the Middle East as early as 1775, when there was a blood libel in Hebron.   A second blood libel occurred in Damascus in 1840 and one occurred in Cyprus in the same year.   As the blood libel was the subject of folk ballads and literature, it was not simply a religious superstition in Europe, but a staple of popular culture, like most anti-Semitic prejudices.

Nigger Jim!

The infamous, controversial term is used over 200 times in Mark Twain's Huckleberry Finn!   However, we are now at a point that Twain's incredible iconic classic...is subject to censorship because of the use of the infamous "N" word...aka Nigger! (Sorry Oprah!)

Again...sorry...but it is what it is!   There are those that want to censor its use and ban it from existence.   What's next?   Eliminate it from dictionaries?   This word, as repulsive as it, is an inherent part of the American lexicon...and will be there long after I'm gone.   I think future generations should be aware of its existence, its ugliness and hopefully...one day...its place in history!

Iowa too? Say it ain't so!

Regrettably...I need to add Iowa to the list!   As of today…any Iowan with a permit can carry guns visibly with no restrictions, even into bars as long as the gun owner is not legally drunk!

I went to college in Iowa.   Some of my best friends and fraternity brothers reside in Iowa.   This can't be happening!   Is this what the 2nd Amendment has come to???   I just don't get it!

One - One, One - One!

Happy New Year!   No resolutions.   I never keep them.   Just wishing for the best.

OK...maybe one resolution.   I really would like to reconnect to the friends/acquaintences that, for whatever reason, I've lost contact with.   Gonna pick up the phone and see what happens!   In some cases, this could turn out to be ugly...but again, I'm hoping for the best!
